Operating Instructions: Insert charger into vehicle’s power port after the vehicle has been started. Plug the connector into your Apple iPhone 4 power port to initiate charging. Always unplug your vehicle charger while not in use and before leaving the vehicle. Do not charge in excess of 24 hours.

When I buy off-brand products for our employees in the hopes at saving money, they balk at my thriftiness. However, this time I have a Verizon product, but didn't pay a fortune for it. Just treat it kindly like any other car charger. Pull it out from the plug and not from the cord. That's just common sense and you'll keep your charger like new.
