The China-based phone company Huawei announced today at a London conference that they will be releasing the world’s thinnest smartphone. Measuring in at 6.18 millimeters (or, .24 inches for us Americans) thick, this thing is thin. For reference, the ultra-thin iPhone 5 is 7.6 mm thick. However, unlike the iPhone 5, the Ascend P6 comes with a much larger display, measuring in at 4.7 inches. In reading the PR release, the Ascend P6 seems to be targeted at woman, as they repeatedly mention it as the phone for the fashionably conscious, has a UI termed ‘Emotion UI,’ and continually used words like, ‘beauty, elegance, can fit into clutch bags or the tiniest of pockets.’ The phone comes fully stocked. It features an 8mp rear facing camera, will run Android’s JellyBean 4.2.2, a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU and 2GB RAM; and while it only boasts 8GB of storage, a micro SD slot allows users to add an additional 32GB. However, one of the coolest features is an unprecedented 5 MP front facing camera. Most other smartphones don’t even come close to that. Skyping, and Google hangouts on this phone will be that much better. And, I would be more excited about this, but the PR release said that the front facing camera will be ‘perfect for selfies,’ which is just embarrassing. But, I guess they know what the people want:  More pictures of themselves. The Ascend P6 should be available next month in 19 countries. Unfortunately, the U.S. isn’t one of them. Sorry, but I guess you’ll have to wait to take that high def self shot.
